Looking back on a long lasting tradition, the Department of Biotechnology is one of the divisions of the Institute for Biochemistry and Biotechnology (founded in 1972) which helped to establish this research focus at the Technical University as well as in Braunschweig.

In 2002, Prof. Dr. Stefan Dübel joined the Department as its new director, introducing the research focus of Antibody Engineering and Phage Display. In addition, the well established research focus on Biochemical Engineering, led by Prof. Dr. Siegmund Lang and Prof. Dr. Udo Rau, continues its succesful development. Both topics will be combined in a third new focus, Recombinant Protein Production.

Spanning a very broad range from basic molecular biology and cell biology to process development in industry contracts, the Department is well equipped to embark into the challenges of cutting egde biotechnology research of the new millennium.

By train: 
Exit Braunschweig main station. Just in front, slightly left, are bus platforms. Take the bus 419 or 439 (direction: Weststadt Donaustraße), exit at Gliesmaroder Straße. Go away from the cross road to Linnestraße. Hold on right to Bültenweg and you enter the Spielmannstrße at the second street on left side.

By air: 
Nearest airport is Hannover (HAJ). Best way for transfer to Braunschweig is to take airport shuttle (45 min, needs reservation) or train (ca. 1,5 h, includes change of train at Hannover main station).
In some cases, particular from overseas, it may be faster to fly to Frankfurt (FRA) and take the comfortable ICE train to Braunschweig (3,5 hours, connection via Frankfurt main station).
From Berlin's airports it takes about 2,5h by train or car - you may take a taxi to the Berlin main station and take the comfortable ICE train to Braunschweig (1,3h).
